International Air Access

Budapest has direct flight connection with almost every capital of Europe and other major cities and hubs in Europe and world-wide as well. A number of international carriers have their service to Budapest. 34 airline companies operate direct flights to Budapest from several destinations. There are overseas direct flights to Toronto, Beijing and from 2018 New York and Chicago.

Budapest is available from the big international overseas cities with one flight connection e.g. through Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, London, Vienna, Zurich, Dubai or Doha. There are several daily flights from and to these and other big cities regarding the destination Budapest. The Budapest international airport is located 22 km from the city center.

All major European carriers (British Airways, Lufthansa, Air France) serve Budapest with several flights per day. The major European discount airlines (Ryanair, Wizzair, Norvegian, Easyjet, Jet2, FlyBe, Eurowings) fly to Budapest from more than 90 cities, at very low cost.

The Budapest Airport was voted in 2017, for the 4th year in a row, as best international airport from the region.

The proposed conference venues and hotels in the city center are at a 30-minute taxi ride from the airport.

Visa Information

Since Hungary is member of the European Union and a member of the Schengen Area (21 December, 2007), non EU country citizens and visitors from some overseas countries can enter Hungary only with a valid entry visa. Entry visas can be obtained at any Hungarian embassy, consulate, and in some cases at border crossing points.

The Schengen regulations are only applicable for a stay not exceeding 90 days. Rules for a stay longer than 90 days are laid down by the national law of the member states concerned.

Local Transportation in Budapest

Local transportation within the city is fast and convenient (4 metro lines, many buses and trams).

Budapest has a very good public transportation system. Several types of tickets or travelcard are at your disposal from HUF 350 (cca EUR 1.15). Tickets must be bought in advance from ticket offices, news agents' or automatic machines. Tickets must be validated on the vehicle.
